Our Principal
Principal's Message:
Hello RMS School Families,
I am honored to serve as Principal at Emilie J. Ross Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year. This year marks my 30th year in education—all of them with Hughson Unified School District. As a lifelong Hughson resident who attended Hughson schools myself, and who began teaching English at Hughson High School in 1996, I feel deeply connected to our community and its families. There is truly no other place I would rather be than right here in Hughson—a wonderful place to raise a family and help students grow.
At Ross Middle School, our mission is clear: to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that empowers every student to achieve their full potential by igniting a passion for high-level, lifelong learning. We believe the best learning happens through a learn by doing approach, where students actively engage with ideas, apply skills in meaningful ways, and connect their learning to the real world.
Our staff is proud to be recognized as a California Distinguished School and a PBIS Platinum School. Through our PBIS program, students earn K-9 Kash for demonstrating our core values—being safe, respectful, and responsible. They can spend their Kash in The Husky Hangout on Fridays for apparel, school supplies, and student-chosen items. The Husky Hangout also serves as a space where our mental health team supports students through social and emotional learning groups.
I am grateful to work alongside a dedicated team of educators and a supportive community who share a commitment to student success. I encourage you to stop by, call, or email me with your ideas, questions, or concerns. Together, we will make this a year of growth, connection, and hands-on learning for all our students.
Sincerely, Mary La Rosa Principal Emilie J. Ross Middle School
